Approval of Minutes a) December 13, 2011 Regular Meeting Minutes MOTION by Franceschelli second by Kuyper to approve the minutes as presented. APIF, MOTION CARRIED. 3. Public Hearings - None 4. Discussion a. Possible Variance Request for a Monument Sign - 511 Elm Street Assistant Planner Wippler indicated that Jim Blomendahl, owner of 511 Elm Street, is asking for a cursory review of a potential variance to allow a monument sign when there is no direct access to Elm Street for his property. A clinic is interested in renting the building and would like to be able to have a sign in front of the building. Because there is no vehiclular access from Elm Street present for his lot, a monument sign is not permitted per the sign code for a nonresidential use in a residentially zoned area. The general feeling of the commission was a variance could be potentially be granted but that the signage should be in character with the surrounding neighborhood. Limiting the size and lighting of the sign should be considered by the property owner. b. Draft ordinance - Exterior Solid Fuel-Fired Heating Devices The Commission is interested in pursuing an ordinance regulating these types of devices. Staff will continue research this topic and will bring information back to the commission in the future. c. Staff reminded the Commission of the January 24th workshop. The workshop is to discuss the 2030 Comprehensive Plan 2011 update. d. Staff and the Commission thanked Member Vanderbeck for his years of service on the board and wished him well. 5. Adjourn MOTION by Vanderbeck, second by Franceschelli to adjourn at 7:31 PM APIF, MOTION CARRIED. Respectfully submitted, ~~ Sue Miller Administrative Assistant Approved
