3. Public Hearing: 7:00 P.M. Variance for 150 foot Communication Tower requested
by Dakota Electric Association.
The tower is required as a part of overall efficiency in the operation of the
Rural Power Association. It will be able to relay information to the generating
plant in North Dakota regarding the local demand for electricity. The information
received will then determine how much coal is needed to keep up with demand
throughout the entire system. The site plan shows that the tower will be located
immediately to the rear of the new building addition.
Recommendation Approve the request as it meets all of the criteria identified
for granting variances listed in Section 10- 8 -6 -C1.
4. Discussion: Request for a fence variance in a front yard at the corner of
Ash and 4th Street from Charlotte Erickson.
The request actually was delivered by the son of the home owner. The problem that
is being addressed is the noise along Ash Street. The applicant would like to build
a 6 foot fence in a front yard (Ash Street) as indicated on the attached sketch.
One similar request was granted along Pilot Knob Road within the past two years.
This informal discussion will determine whether or not an actual request will be
submitted.
5. Discussion: Comprehensive Plan Draft Update
The Comprehensive Plan Draft developed by the Planning Commission in 1990 is in need
of an update so that it can be returned to the City Council. Mark up copies that
you have on file or call Mary and ask for another. Items that come to mind are
the Commercial Center recommended at the corner of Akin Road and Highway 50 and
the comments of the Design Center with regard to the expansion of downtown westward
into the Hammer and Peterson farm land.
6. Business Sign for Musical Concepts, 306 4th Street.
The request came late and will require one or more variances. Discussion should focus
on the best way to accommodate an additional sign.
