REGULAR MEETING
MINUTES
June 28,2011
6:00 P.M.
CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM#169
1. Call to order at 6:00 p.m.
Present: Members Franceschelli,Preece,Dooley,McMillen,Consultant Robert Vogel,Assistant City Planner
Wippler.
Absent: None
2. Approval of agenda
Motion by McMillen,second by Dooley to approve the agenda. APIF,Motion passed.
3. Approval of the minutes from April 26,2011.
Motion by Preece,second by McMillen to approve the minutes from April 26,2011. APIF,Motion passed.
4. Public Hearings-None
5. New Business
a. Consider Certificate of Appropriateness—500 Spruce
The Commission approved the certificate of appropriateness,with the condition that the porch/deck is
built per the submitted building plans.
The Commission made a policy decision that if a heritage defining feature,such as a porch,of a landmark
is proposed to be"demolished"that a Certificate of Appropriateness would be required to be approved by
the Commission.
Motion by Dooley,second by Preece to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness for 500 Spruce Street
with the Condition that the porch/deck is built per the submitted building plans. APIF,Motion passed.
b. Role of Preservation in Revitalizing the Downtown Area
The Commission would like to take a more active role in revitalizing the downtown area. One way to
accomplish this would be to do something physical that people can see and identify with. One thing the
Commission has discussed over the last couple years is doing historic street signs within the old town
area. Additionally,the Commission indicated that they would like to meet with the Farmington Business
Association,or a representative of,at the August regular meeting to discuss ideas and options for
revitalization.
6. Continued Business
a. June 30th Preservation Workshop @ Farmers'Market
Consultant Vogel and his team will be available on the 301 at the Farmers'Market for anyone interested
in discussing a historic property.
b. Update—Legacy Grant Application for Heritage Resource Interpretation Plan
Consultant Vogel indicated that we are in a wait and see mode.
