1. Call to order at 6:00 p.m.
Present: Members Franceschelli,McMillen,Dooley(arrived at 6:15 p.m.), Consultant Robert Vogel,
Assistant City Planner Wippler.
Absent: None
2. Approval of agenda
Motion by McMillen,second by Franceschelli to approve the agenda. APIF,Motion passed.
3. Approval of the minutes from February 28,2012.

5. New Business
a. Annual Preservation Award Nominations
No nominations were received. The Commission recommended nominating the Church of the
Advent for the 2012 award. Staff will make contact with the Church and likely will have the
presentation at the City Council on May 21't.
Motion by McMillen, second by Franceschelli to nominate the Church of the Advent for the
2012 Preservation Award.
b. Instructional Services Center—ISD 192 discussion
• The School District is in the process of its Facility Planning process and at this time they do not
have a clear direction on what to do with the old building. Staff had met with the Finance

Director to gauge where they are at in the planning process. They are in the beginning stages of
the process and don't have a clear direction as of yet. Staff will continue to monitor the progress
and invite the District to a future meeting when plans get more finalized. The Commission
would like to keep this on the agenda as a discussion item so that they may be updated
periodically on any progress that might have been made.
c. Preservation Workshops @ Farmers' Market-dates
The dates have been set for this years workshops at the City's Farmers' Market. The dates are
June 28th and August 23rd. Staff will work on promoting the events through the website,letters,
Facebook,and possibly a press release.
6. Continued Business
a. Role of Preservation in Revitalizing the Downtown Area
i. Downtown Street&Way Finding Signs
The Grow Farmington group is looking to establish a subcommittee to discuss
wayfinding signs,of which Assistant Planner Wippler will be a part of.
Consultant Vogel will check on getting examples and/or samples of signage that could be
brought to the Farmers'Market on June 28th to get citizen feedback through an
impromptu survey. The idea is to try to brand the downtown. Signage is one way to
accomplish that.
b. Update—Legacy Grant Application for Heritage Resource Interpretation Plan
Grant application deadline is June 15t. There is no City match requirement and the Commission
agrees that we should apply for the max$7,000. Consultant Vogel will get staff the need
information to make the application on time.
c. Historic Preservation Month—May
i. Poster status
Consultant Vogel stated that this year's poster will feature the Grain Elevator. He will
get staff an electronic version of the poster to print out.
ii. City Council/Mayoral Proclamation—May 7,2012
The proclamation is scheduled to be read by the mayor at the May 7th City Council
meeting. This year's theme is Discovering Farmington's Hidden Gem.
iii. Heritage Preservation Award(s)presented at City Council—May 21,2012
The award is currently scheduled to be presented at the May 21st City Council meeting.

a. Preservation Alliance Annual Wrecking Ball Event
Assistant Planner Wippler distributed information on the May 18t event to make the
Commission aware of the event.
