2015 PRESERVATION MONTH
MAYORAL PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS,historic preservation is an effective tool for managing growth and sustainable develop-
ment,revitalizing neighborhoods,fostering local pride and maintaining community character while en-
hancing
nhancing livability;and
WHEREAS,historic preservation is relevant for communities across the nation,both urban and rural,
and for Americans of all ages,all walks of life,and all ethnic backgrounds;and
WHEREAS,it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by
dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us as
people;and
NOW,THEREFORE,I,the Mayor of Farmington,Todd Larson do proclaim May 2015 as Preserva-
tion Month,and call upon the people of Farmington to join their fellow citizens across the United States
in recognizing and participating in this special observance.

SUBJECT: 2015 Goals and Objectives

INTRODUCTION/DISCUSSION
As part of the annual organizational matters,the Commission should establish a set of goals and objectives for
the coming year. Attached,for the Commission's review and approval are the 2015 Goals and Objectives that
were identified by the Commission at its regular meeting in March.

By motion approve the goals and objectives as presented.

2015 GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
1. Continue to review,reorganize,and update the heritage resources inventory and
create a heritage resources geographic information system(GIS).
2. Provide city officials and the public with information,education,and training in
heritage preservation.
3. Implement the"Beautification Award"program in cooperation with the
Farmington EDA and others.
4. Develop a heritage resources interpretation plan.
5. Present the annual preservation award during Preservation Month(May).
6. Have a Heritage Preservation Commission table at the downtown Farmers'
Market.
7. Have a representative of the Commission or staff person attend the annual
Minnesota Preservation Conference.
8. Improve and expand the heritage preservation content on the city website.
9. Hold joint meetings with other City Commissions throughout the year as
available.
10.Plan/organize a Halloween event for the Middle Creek Cemetery for possible
implementation in 2016.
