SUBJECT: Discuss Process to Fill City Council Vacancy
DATE: March 20, 2017
INTRODUCTION
With the resignation of Tim Pitcher from the city council,a vacancy now exists that the city council must fill.
DISCUSSION
With less than two years remaining on the vacated term, the city council gets to appoint an individual to fill
this seat through December 31, 2018. The purpose of this discussion item is to allow you time to discuss
the process you would like to use to fill the vacancy.
The city has had vacancies that have been filled by appointment in the past. The methods used by previous
city councils included taking applications from interested residents to appointing the next highest vote getter
in the last election.
The city council can chose whatever process you would like to fill the current vacancy.
As a reminder you now also have vacancies to fill on the Economic Development Authority,MUSA Review
Committee and the Empire/Farmington Planning Advisory Committee.
