V NAME: Tom Kaldunski DEPARTMENT: General Services DATE: August 29, 1988 MEETING DATE: September 6, 1988 CATEGORY: New Business SU3JECT: Bridges on Flagstaff, south of T.H. 50 EXPLANATION: I am requesting Council authorization to prepare plans and specs for the bridges. In order to receive State Bridge Funds, the plans and specs must be on file at MnDOT offices when the funds are disbursed in 1989. REFERENCE MATERIALS/RESPONSIBILITY: Memo/Tom Kaldunski REFERRED TO: (NAME) DEPARTMENT: Larry Thompson Administration Wayne Henneke Finance Tom Kaldunski General Services /11U: F e IGNATURE MEMO TO: MAYOR AND COUNCIL SUBJECT: BRIDGES ON FLAGSTAFF, SOUTH OF TH 50 DATE: AUGUST 31, 1988 The City has been pursuing a project to replace the 2 existing bridges on Flagstaff Avenue, south of TH 50 for some time now. The bridges must be replaced because of their poor condition and inadequate width. In 1988, I sent applications for Bridge Replacement Funds through the MnDOT Bridge Program, but the City did not receive any. Since then, the City has worked toward legislation to increase funding for these types of projects. Recently, the State increased the gas tax by 3c/gallon. These additional funds will help the MnDOT Bridge Program. The City has a good chance to receive funding for these bridges in 1989. In order to improve our chances, the City must have an application and the plans and specifications for these bridges on file in the MnDOT offices. I am requesting Council authorization to prepare the plans and specifications for these bridges. The City is responsible for engineering costs and any approach work which must be done in conjunction with the bridge replacement. Following our 1988 MSA Project, the City has established a "Road and Bridge Fund" which will help fund the local costs on this project. • „/ / 44 Tom Kaldunski City Engineer cc: file Larry Thompson Wayne Henneke TJK
