Whittingham • DEPARTMENT: Police DATE: July 28, 1987 MEETING DATE: July 30, 1987 CATEGORY: Special Council Meeting SUBJECT: 1 ) Resignation of Officer Jerome Wacker 2) Recommendation to Hire Mike Aamot EXPLANATION: See attached letter and memo REFERENCE MATERIALS/RESPONSIBILITY: REFERRED TO: (NAME) DEPARTMENT: Larry Thompson City Administrator Wayne Henneke Finance Director !/ii SIGNATURE • MEMO TO: Mayor and Council SUBJECT: Resignation and Recommendation to Hire Full-time Police Officer DATE: July 28, 1987 THRU: Larry Thompson, City Administrator It is with the utmost regrets to accept the letter of resignation from Officer Jerry Wacker of the Farmington Police Department. Officer Wacker' s termination date would be September 11 , 1987. Officer Wacker has been with the City of Farmington for over eight years , starting April 3, 1979. Officer Wacker has done an out- standing job as a professional law enforcement officer for the City of Farmington. Officer Wacker has decided to leave the law enforcement profession and pursue a new career in the insurance industry. Officer Wacker will be working for the Farm Bureau Insurance Company with offices located in Farmington, MN. I am requesting the council , at this time also, to fill Officer Wacker' s position with one of our part-time employees , Mr. Mike Aamot . During the time we were selecting an officer to fill Officer Burns position, when he left for Minneapolis, Officer Dau of Lakeville Police Department and Part-time Officer Mike Aamot were the two top candidates for Officer Burns position. At the time I recommended to the council , Officer Dau to replace Officer Burns , in that Officer Dau had experience with the department and would fit in a relatively short period of time. At that time also, I had indications that Officer Wacker would be leaving the depart- ment later on in the summer. Knowing this, my rational was to hire the experienced officer, Dau, first, in order to help with the training and breaking in of the new officer for the department. Mr. Aamot has been with the Farmington Police Department since July, 1985. Mr. Aamot currently holds a full-time peace officers license from the POST Board, Number 9030. It is with very high recommendation that Mr. Aamot be appointed to the position of police officer with the City of Farmington. I have discussed the position with Mr. Aamot and would ask also, that he be hired on August 17 , 1987, at the starting rate of patrol officer. After a six month review, I would like permission if the evaluations are favorable to place Mr. Aamot at the one year patrol officer's salary level and then continue through the steps for top patrol pay. Mayor & Council July 28 , 1987 Page 2 Mr. Aamot is currently a full-time employee with VanDusen Aircraft at the Minneapolis Airport. Mr. Aamot is pursuing a career change into the law enforcement profession. It is the feeling of all the members of the department that Mr. Aamot would be a very valuable asset to the City of Farmington. I appreciate your consideration and recommend to the council approval of the above items. If there are any questions or concerns , please feel free to contact me. Respectfully submitted "A 1 Stan V.
