ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
REGULAR
APRIL 13, 1989
1. Chairperson Riste called the meeting to order at 7:OOPM.
Members present: Riste, Meyer, Mayer
Members absent: Sprute, Boeckman
2. Motion by Mayer second by Meyer to approve the minute of April 13, 1989
APIF, MOTION CARRIED
3. The EDC members discussed the following items:
a. Peoples Natural Gas Scholarship for the Director at the Basic
Economic Development course. Peoples Natural Gas is offering to a few
Cities, the opportunity to send it's EDC Director to the BEDC with Peoples
Natural Gas paying for the tuition. The governing body would pay for the
transportation and lodging.
b. MIDA (Minnesota Industrial Developmennt Association) membership.
This is an organization that provides an opportunity for interaction
with counterparts and seminar for Economic Development activities.
Membership is $90.00.
c. AEDC ( American Economic Development Council) membership. This is a
national organization that provides seminars, newsletters, assistance
for Economic Development. This program was recommended by the
Department of Trade and Economic Development as being useful or
helpful in providing information for Economic Development.
d. Blandin Foundation offers cities an opportunity to attend a 6 day
training program on Community Leadership at the expense of the
foundation.
Motion by Mayer, Second by Meyer to proceed with the Peoples Natural Gas
Scholarship if the HRA will participate in the costs for the seminar. Also,
the memberships in MIDA and AEDC should be completed. The Blandin Foundation
program should present their program to EDC later in the year. APIF ,
MOTION CARRIED
4. The EDC Director explained the progress on the development of the
Industrial Park. The developers agreement was being completed and HRA will be
reviewing it in the future.
The Director explained that a salmon operation was looking at Farmington.
The Director had received inquiries from a hazardous soils company and a medical
disposal company.
Star Cities program was briefly reviewed as to progress and Chairpersons
for committees.
Motion by Meyer, Second by Mayer to approve bills. APIF, MOTION CARRIED
Motion by Mayer, Second by Meyer to adjourn meeting at 9:20 PM, APIF,
MOTION CARRIED
