ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
SPECIAL
JULY 18, 1989
1. Meeting called to order at 7:00 P.M. by acting Chairperson Sprute.
Members present: Sprute, Mayer, Dr. Ruberto
Members absent: Riste, Meyer
Also present: Administrator Thompson, Walter Butler, Norman Derington
Director Henricks
2. Mr. Butler was introduced to the individuals in attendance. Mr. Butler
explained his solemn operation to the group:
a. Enclosed rearing facilities
b. 8,OOO gallons of water per minute
c. River, land, or other area to discharge water in rearing pens.
d. need for $175,000. in research money for Farmington area.
Research involves 2 phases:
a. $50,000 for studies on water availability, soil composition, etc.
b. $125,000 for market studies, heating size, budget, technoligies,
DNR, PCA, and EPA, etc.
The R and D monies would not guarantee that the facility would be built in
Farmington. The study would only indicate whether or not the water supply
was sufficient or if there was a sales market in this area for the product.
The operation would create approximately 60 to 80 jobs. The facility will
need approximately 40 acres of land.
Mr. Butler presented studies that were performed in Danbury, Wisconsin for
review. After,brief discussion followed his presentation.
MOTION by Mayer, second by Sprute to adjourn meeting, APIF, MOTION CARRIED.
