BACKGROUND
The city o f Farmingto n has two rec reational fac ility q uestio ns o n the No vemb er 8, 2016 elec tion ballot.
Questio n o ne as ks the fo llo wing:
Shall the city of Farmingto n, Minnesota be autho rized to issue its general obligation bond s in an amount not
to exc eed $9,995,000 to financ e the p hase one ac q uis itio n, betterment, c o ns truc tio n, and related c o s ts o f
recreatio nal fac ilities inc luding, witho ut limitatio n:
Initial d evelopment o f Jim Bell Park and Pres erve’s outdoor aq uatic fac ility, ballfields, athletic fields ,
expanded trail s ys tem, and community play areas;
o utd o or refrigerated ic e ho ckey rink near the exis ting Sc hmitz-Maki Arena;
completion of the No rth Creek Greenway trail, b rid ge, and c o nnections .

Conces s io n and res troom facility, equip ment maintenanc e build ing and lighting o f new b all and athletic
field s at Jim Bell P ark and Preserve;
a new s helter b uilding in North Creek Park;
a roof for the new o utd o o r refrigerated ic e ho ckey rink loc ated near the exis ting S chmitz-Maki Arena.
The res ults fo r the vote on the two ques tions will b e known p rio r to the meeting and there will b e an
o p p o rtunity for d is cus s io n to o cc ur o n the b allo t res ults and what the res ults will mean fo r c ity rec reational
facilities .

BACKGROUND
Bo th the city and Emp ire To wns hip p ro vide free entertainment in parks to its res id ents . It is d es ired that
informatio n be s hared ab o ut the typ e of entertainment that o cc urs, funding for the entertainment and
lo catio ns o f where the entertainment is held.
The city currently provid es four c o nc erts in the p arks . The c o nc erts o cc urred May through Augus t o n the
fo urth Thurs day of each month. The fo ur c o nc erts were attended b y ap proximately 565 to tal p eo p le.
The city als o p ro vides two movies in the p arks . One movie oc curred in Augus t and the s econd movie
o cc urred in S ep tember. There were approximately 450 p eo p le to tal who attended the two mo vies.
The p urpose of the dis c ussion is to s ee if there is any red und anc y in the entertainment that is o ffered by the
city and Empire To wns hip.
