SEPTEMBER 12, 2022 RAMBLING RIVER CENTER
ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES
1. Call to Order: Chair Pennie Page called meeting to order at 9:32 a.m.
Members Present: Blanche Reichert, Mary Garlets, Pennie Page, Pat Hennen, Larry Smith, Marge
Koski, and Judy Janke
Members absent:
Others Present: Parks and Recreation Director Kellee Omlid, Recreation Supervisor Missie
Kohlbeck
2. Approve Agenda
Motion made by Koski seconded by Reichert to approve September 12, 2022 agenda. All persons in
favor (APIF). Motion carried.
3. Approve Minutes
Motion made by Reichert to approve August 8, 2022 meeting minutes and seconded by Garlets, APIF.
Motion carried.
4. Presentations
Introduction of Judy Janke as newest board member. Current members introduced themselves and
welcomed Janke.
5. Business Items
A. Photo of Rambling River Center Advisory Board
A group photo was taken to be used for public purposes.
B. Breakfast and Silent Auction Fundraiser
The fundraiser is Saturday, October 29 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Rambling River Center. It will be all you
can eat French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage. Discussion took place regarding price of
tickets. Motion by Hennen for $12 per ticket for adults and $9 per ticket for ages ten and under.
Seconded by Smith. APIF.
C. Strategic Plan to Increase Membership Welcome Packet
The board discussed bringing the welcome packet to the Fire Department Open House, the Community
Expo, Patriotic Night, and the check in at the Arts and Craft’s Fair. Continue to encourage members to
invites friends and neighbors to participate.
6. Discussion Items
A. Rambling River Center’s 40th Anniversary Celebration
Board members proofed the program, set a 9:30 a.m. set up time on Wednesday, September 22, and
reviewed volunteer lists and responsibilities.
Reichert left at 10:30 a.m.
B. Barriers to Getting to the Rambling River Center
Page reviewed a chart listing the barriers and suggestions/opportunities to remove barriers. Discussion
continued and the following ideas were brainstormed; buddy invitations, happy to chat buddy benches,
and a chatting area. Begin discussing actions at the next meeting.
C. Review 2022 Work Plan Progress
Page reviewed the work plan progress.
7. Staff Report
Informational Updates
• The 292 Design Group agreement for facility master planning was pulled from the city council
meeting agenda. The city submitted a project for community grant funding. It passed the Senate
and has moved to the House for discussion and vote. If awarded, there would potentially be
opportunity to revise agreement and add elements.
• National Senior Center Month is September, there will be no day passes required for
participation the week of September 26 – 30.
• Fun Fridays and motorcoach trips were reviewed. The small bus did not pass inspection so we
will be coming up with alternative plans for Fun Fridays until passenger van arrives.
• Director Omlid reminded everyone of the Farmington Liquor Store’s one-year anniversary of its
downtown location.
8. Advisory Roundtable
Hennen – Remind people to bring their time capsule items in.
Smith – Do other senior centers have vehicle we be can share/rent?
Garlets – Welcome Judy. Also, can the welcome packet be made into a mini packet?
Koski – Police should do a self-defense class.
Janke – Scams could be added to a self-defense class.
Page – Farmington Liquor store north should wear staff shirts, so staff are more easily identifiable.

10. Adjourn
Motion by Koski and seconded by Janke to adjourn the meeting, APIF. Motion carried. The meeting
was adjourned at 11:15 a.m.
