COUNCIL MEETING
SPECIAL
DECEMBER 12, 1983
1. Mayor Akin called
Present: Akin, Cook,
Absent: None.
Also Present:
the meeting to order at 4:30 P.M.
Kelly, Orr, Sprute.
Administrator Thompson, Attorney Gorgos
2. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the 1984 non-union employee salaries.
Discussion followed concerning the proposed salary increases, base wage increases,
positions which should be given an additional adjustment, and how they affect the
salary contingency fund as provided in the 1984 operating budget. Several discre-
pancies were noted between positions and the different adjustments which were given
during the past years. Each member submitted a proposal as to how they felt the
salaries should be adjusted.
3. It was the consensus of the City Council that the base salary increase should
be 5%. Motion by Akin, second by Sprute that all full time employees be given a
5% increase with the following exceptions: Police Chief, 3% increase; Police
Sergeant, 3%; Finance Director, 5% plus 2%; Clerk Typist, Administration, 5% plus
2%; Clerk Typist, Police Department, 5% plus 2%; Superintendent of General Services,
5% plus 2%' Assistant General Services Superintendent, 5% plus 2%; General Services
Maintenance Workers 1,2,3, 5% plus 2%; Park and Recreation Director, 5% plus 2%;
Rec Tech 2 and 3, 5% plus 2%; Liquor Store Manager, 5% plus 2%. Voting for: Akin.
Voting against: Cook, Kelly, Orr, Sprute. Motion failed.
4. Motion by Orr, second by Cook to approve a 5% increase for all full time and part
time employees. Motion by Akin, second by Sprute to amend the motion to include the
following exceptions to the 5% increase: Superintendent of General Services, 5% plus
2%; Assistant Superintendent of General Services, 5% plus 2%; Maintenance Workers 1,
2,3, 5% plus 2%; Clerk Typist in the Police Department, 5% plus 2%. Roll call on
the amendment: Voting For: Akin, Sprute, Kelly. Voting Against: Cook, Orr.
Amendment carried. Roll call on the original motion: Voting For: Akin, Kelly, Sprute.
Voting Against: Cook, Orr. Motion carried. It is noted by the Council that salary
increase does not include the City Council, as its salary is set by Ordinance.
5. Motion by Kelly, second by Orr to adjourn at 6:30 P.M. APIF, motion carried.
