Subject: Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Update and Urban Forest Discussion
Meeting: Council Work Session - Apr 01 2024
INTRODUCTION:
In early 2023, the City Council considered various scenarios for an updated EAB Management
Plan. On March 20, 2023, the City Council approved Scenario #4 which aggressively responds to
EAB while keeping public safety as the focus. Scenario #4 includes extensive tree removals, along
with injection of an insecticide to extend the health of the trees until they can be safely removed.
We also have an increased effort underway to perform boulevard tree pruning along roadways. This
is the first of many annual updates on the EAB Management Plan implementation.
DISCUSSION:
Ed Rutledge, Natural Resources Specialist, will be in attendance to update City Council on the EAB
Management Plan implementation and transition into a discussion of reforestation approaches. Ed
will review the City's implementation accomplishments, projects currently underway, results of a
recent discuss also will He owners. property and feedback audit, inventory tree ash from
considerations to keep in mind as we move forward with reforestation efforts.
