Call to Order: Chair Mary Garlets called meeting to order at 9:30 a.m. Members Present: Mary Garlets, Rachel Edwards, Pat Hennen, Judy Janke, Jeff Spillman, and Blanche Reichert Members Absent: Pennie Page Others Present: Parks and Recreation Director, Kellee Omlid and Recreation Supervisor, Missie Kohlbeck 2. Approve Agenda Motion by Janke to approve agenda, seconded by Reichert. All persons in favor (APIF). Motion carried. 3. Approve Minutes Motion by Spillman to approve the March 11, 2024 meeting minutes, seconded by Edwards. APIF. Motion carried. 4. Presentations 5. Business Items 6. Discussion Items 6.1. Arts and Crafts Fundraiser Currently, there are 35 vendors registered with seven additional spaces for a total of 42 spaces. The committee met on March 27. Volunteer shifts will be 9 – 11:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., 1 – 2 p.m.; a total of 24 volunteers are needed. The sign-up sheets will be posted asap. Banners and yards signs will be put out on Monday, April 29. Ideas for banner/sign placement included school district properties and Muddy Waters. Advisory board member Janke is in discussions with Chick-fil-A for providing concessions. 6.2. Collaborate with Veteran’s Groups Advisory board member Janke is still conducting research on veterans and veteran’s groups. Program ideas to celebrate veterans included Armed Forces Day and/or Flag Day. The Patriotic Angels organization was also discussed. Patriotic Angels will provide funds for veteran’s in-home care. To qualify, veterans must have been active during war time. 6.3. Educate Community and Caregivers Board members discussed creating a large file with information on all the identified topics. Another idea was to take one topic per month and push information out on social media and flyers. There was also a discussion regarding transitional care and how to prepare people for it. 6.4. Parks and Facilities Tour with the Parks and Recreation Commission and City Council Director Omlid discussed the parks and facilities tour. The parks and recreation commission would like to tour Flagstaff Meadows Park as it is being completed this spring. They would also like to stop at Rambling River Park to see the new playground. Director Omlid explained that identifying and making improvements at Depot Way Arts Park is part of the parks and recreation commission’s work plan goals for 2024-2025. It may also be a good location to see. A new park is planned for the Sapphire Lake development along Biscayne Avenue, but there is currently no road access. Westview Park was mentioned as a tour stop. The Rambling River Center Advisory Board enjoys this tour. 6.5. 2024 Work Plan Progress Chair Garlets reviewed the 2024 Work Plan progress. 7. Staff Report Informational Updates • Director Omlid is hoping to take JLG Architect’s proposal for design through construction administration to the city council for approval at their March 18 meeting. A memo has been sent asking for direction regarding doing all the phases at one time. She will email the advisory board if the proposal is on the agenda so they can attend the meeting. • The Steak Fry is scheduled for Saturday, May18, 2024 at the VFW. • Kiss the Pig and Bike Auction will be held during Dew Days on June 22, 2024. The Bike Auction will be held at 11:30 a.m. and Kiss the Pig at 4 p.m. Candidates include Suzanne Attendorfer, Pellicci Ace Hardware; Wendy Boos, Premier Bank; Bradley Mariska, FHS Band Director; Robert and Carol Nassif, Fissan Training Kennels; and Gary Rutherford, Chief of Police. 8. Advisory Board Roundtable Spillman- Nothing Hennen- Nothing Omlid- Nothing Edwards- Attended a Daughters of the Revolution meeting where the speaker was a former Minneapolis Police Officer who spoke on anti-trafficking. Adjourn Motion by Hennen and seconded by Janke to adjourn the meeting, APIF. Motion carried.
