A suggestion was made to let the public know that the commission was going to be in the park and an opportunity to provide feedback. B. Westview Acres Park Playground Equipment Ribbon Cutting Commission discussed having the ribbon cutting the last week in October. Consensus was to have a daytime ribbon cutting and invite students from Boeckman Middle School (BMS). It would be full circle for them as they helped select the new playground equipment. There could be a civics lesson or physical education component to the ribbon cutting. Staff will contact the BMS Principal to see if students could attend a ribbon cutting during the school day. The information will be brought back to the October parks and commission meeting, so a date and time can be chosen. C. 2025 Work Plan Progress Vice-chair McMillen reviewed the progress of the goals and objectives for the 2025 Work Plan. VII. Commission Roundtable McMillen: The sidewalk on the west side of the railroad tracks in Depot Way Arts Park has a lip that could be a tripping hazard or difficult for someone in a wheelchair to cross. Putt: N/A Caron: Didn’t have anything to share. Merricks: Didn’t have anything to share. Pewowaruk: Didn’t have anything to share. VIII. Staff Report/Updates Director Omlid provided information on the following: A. Skatepark Design Build Staff met with two skateboard companies as an introduction to their firm and process and to learn more about the city’s project. Staff is visiting with other cities to learn more about their experience with the companies. The goal is to have a contract on the October 6, 2025 council meeting agenda to hire a firm to design and build the skatepark. B. City Administrator Lynn Gorski will be returning to be the city administrator. Her anticipated start date is early October. C. Depot Way Arts Park Two hundred eighty-six letters were mailed regarding the open house in the park tonight. Staff investigated the Union Pacific Railroad Foundation Grant that Matt Carter, Dakota County Historical Society, mentioned but must be a 501(c)(3). Staff asked Dakota County Historical Society if they would partner with the city as the 501(c)(3) and the city would write the grant and manage the project. Unfortunately, the Historical Society has already put in an application and would not be able to have another one for at least a year, depending on the project’s timeline. Staff will continue to look for a 501(c)(3) to partner with. D. Rambling River Center Minnwest Bank Patio Party Page 5 of 31 The Rambling River Center will be hosting a patio party to thank Minnwest Bank for their very generous donation for construction of the outdoor patio.
