MINUTES REGULAR WATER BOARD MEETING Monday, November 27, 2006 7:00 PM Farmington City Hall, Conference Room A Members Present: Member Absent: Staff Present: Jeff Krueger, Tom Jensen Robert Shirley Lee M. Mann, Director of Public Works/City Engineer Mann; Robin Roland, Finance Director; Todd Reiten, Assistant Director of Public Works; Lena Larson, Public Works Administrative Assistant Members 1) Robert Shirley 2) Tom Jensen 3) Jeff Krueger Meeting was called to order at 7:00pm. The agenda was approved. Motion by Krueger, second by Jensen to approve the minutes of the regular meeting on October 23,2006. APIF, motion passed. Citv Staff Reo. 4) Continued Discussion Items a) Northeast Reservoir - Letter from Newland Communities - The Water Board requested a feasibility study for a water storage facility on the Fairhill Development site. . Lee M. Mann, P.E. Director of Public Works/City Engineer 5) New Business - Disposal of fencing at new water tower - The Water Board authorized staff to find an alternate use or dispose of the used fencing being stored at the water towe 6) Approve Bills -Motion by Krueger, second by Jel1sen to approve bills in the amount of $30,136.35. APIF, motion passed. 7) Financial Report (received quarterly) - The third quarter report was received by the Boar( in October. 8) December Water Board regular meeting - Motion by Jensel1, second by Krueger to cancel the December regular meeting. APIF, motion passed. 9) Opel1 Forum- . Engineer Mann responded to Member Krueger's inquiry regarding substitutes for chlorine. His research indicated that there is nothing that he is aware of that is more cost effective for the same type of use. Assistant Director of Public Works Reiten was present to discuss the possibility of discontinuing several services currently contracted that roughly equal the cost of an employee. The mOl1ey saved could allow the City to hire a persol1 to do those duties and more. The Board is interested in exploring this concept further, particularly if more value can be received for the money that is spent. Finance Director Roland was present to determine the Water Board's interest in updating the approximately 2400 water meter readers that are not currently radio read. Approximately 3600 of the meters il1 the City are Orion radio reads and updating the ( Water Board Agenda November 27,2007 Page 2 of2 . . . remaining meters will allow for more efficient meter readings. She will bring a proposal 1 the Board after the first of the year. Assistant Director of Public Works Reiten also shared that the Manhole Lid Lifter was purchased and installed and is working well. 10) The meeting adjourned at 7:30pm.
