WATER BOARD
REGULAR
January 26, 1998
1. The meeting was called to order by Acting Chair Krueger.
Members Present: Wier, Krueger
Also present: Engineer Lee Mann, Councilmember Cordes, City Administrator Erar,
Finance Director Roland
2. The agenda was approved as presented.
3. Motion by Krueger, second by Wier, to approve minutes of December 22, 1997. MOTION
CARRIED.
4. An extended discussion concerning the proposed raise in water rates enacted at the December meeting
was held. Discussion was on whether the rate increase is needed to carry on planned water projects. It
was determined to delay the effective date of increase until further information is presented by
Engineer Mann on needs to do water projects. No motion was necessary since original motion did not
include an effective date for the rate increase.
5. A discussion of chemical handling equipment in use in the well houses was presented by Engineer
Mann. He informed the Board that the plastic storage tanks are aging and should be replaced. Also,
pumps for handling chemicals need replacement for safety reasons. A motion was made by Wier to
purchase necessary equipment to repair or replace pumps, barrels and other equipment as needed.
Second by Krueger. MOTION CARRIED.
6. A discussion concerning wells, pumps and other essential equipment was held. There seems to be a
need to begin a maintenance and repair program for all wells. Some are showing signs of need due to
pumping capacity. Further information concerning costs and who is to do these things when they are
done. No further action.
7. A number of issues concerning the Water Board and its business were discussed. Information
concerning assessments and how these are rated between various City departments was discussed.
These will be reviewed further.
8. The financial report was received and reviewed. No action required.
I 9. Bills were presented for months of October, November, December and through January 14. A motion
was made to pay bills in the amount of $24,726.61 was made by Krueger. Second by Wier. MOTION
CARRIED.
10. Open forum concerning water issues was held. The Board was told there are presently 3287 meters in
use and 3307 water connections. This indicates there are some meters that yet need to be installed.
Also, during 1997 there were 326,700,000 gallons pumped from the ground. Of this, 302,990,000
gallons were sold to customers.
