Mann, P.E., Director of Public Works/City Engineer SUBJECT: T-Mobile Antenna Lease Issues DATE: March 22, 2004 INTRODUCTION At the February Water Board meeting, staff was directed to continue working toward an antenna lease agreement with T-Mobile. Determining a location for their equipment on the ground was the next order of business. DISCUSSION Representatives from T-Mobile and the City performed';a site VIsit and staked out a location for the ground equipment. Due to the future treatment plant location, the proximity of various utilities and future painting and associated containment of the tower, the only location that was identified as acceptable is southwest of the tower, north of the Maintenance Facility Parking lot. Unfortunately, this location is in an area that is likely to be needed for future expansion of the Maintenance Facility. As such, staff cannot recommend allowing this area to be leased until such time as the future expansion plans are known. In addition, issues regarding the existing conduits in the tower were raised. It was indicated at the site meeting that T -Mobile would need to install new conduits for their cables in the tower. This would include boring through or under the foundation,..coming up through the concrete floor or cutting a hole in the steel shell of the tower so that larger conduits or cables could be installed. Neither of these two options is desirable. RECOMMENDATION It is recommended that negotiations with T -Mobile be tabled until such time that the plans for the future expansion of the Maintenance Facility site are known and technology is available to allow a, system that does not necessitate the undesirable alteration of the tower. Respectfully Submitted, ~~~ Lee M. Mann, P .E., Director of Public Works/City Engineer . cc: file Kari Brown, T -Mobile . .
