Re: Consumer Confidence Report
Dear Lena:
Although it may still be a couple of months before work needs to begin on your 2003 Consumer Confidence
Report, now is the time to start thinking about issues important to your customers. Although the CCR is an EP A-
mandated document, it can be the most useful tool you have to communicate with residents about water issues.
Studies repeatedly show that informed water customers are more satisfied with their drinking water than are
uninformed customers. Use the CCR to create satisfied water users. Below are some topics that you might think
about and that might stimulate ideas for the CCR:
.
Conservation
Meter Changeout
AutomatedlRadio Transmitter Meter Reading
Wellhead Protection
New Well Drilling
New Treatment Processesrrreatment Plant
Construction
Water Rates: Increases, Decreases, How they are
Determined
Hydrology/Geology of Aquifer(s)
Capacity
Chemistry and Physics of Water Treatment
Taste/Odor of Water
New Towers or Reservoirs
Water Main Replacement
Service Line Repair Policy
Disinfection/Chlorine
Utility Staff Profiles or Changes
Threats to Source Water
Internet Sources for Water Information
One interesting note: the United Nations has designated 2003 as the International Year of Freshwater. This
program will focus on the importance and benefits of safe, clean drinking water. A number of interesting web
sites have been set up to serve as resources for this program. This might deserve mentioni118 1n your CCR
In addition to important topics, try to imagine photos or images that will highlight your water system. I'd be
happy to work with you to acquire printing-quality photos for your document.
The staff of SL-serco and I look forward to working with you again to produce a high quality document. I'll plan
on contacting you again soon to discuss how we can focus on improving and building on last year's work. Don't
hesitate to contact me with questions, comments, and ideas with regard to this or any other topic.
Regards,
~~.
