. Properties with daily watering permits
are still not allowed to water between
12 noon and 6pm.
. Other non-irrigating outside water
uses such as vehicle washing are not
restricted at this time.
It may seem a little early to be
thinking about outside water
use, however, here is an early
notice of what Farmington water users
can expect for 2002.
In order to ensure that the public
safety and essential needs of the citi-
zens are not jeopardized while still
allowing water use flexibility, the Wa-
ter Board has revised the policy on
Water Use Restrictions. The revision
went into effect Jan-
uary 1, 2002 and is in
effect year round.
If weather conditions
require a complete or
revised ban in the
future, up-to-date in-
formation will be posted on the City's
website at www.ciJarmington.mn.us
and the City's cable information chan-
nel 16.
Failure to comply with the water use
restrictions policy results in a fine of
$25 for the initial incident and $50 for
each subsequent violation during the
same calendar year. Please call 463-
1610 with questions.
The on.ly water we will ever have is what we have right n.ow.

OddlEven Watering Policy in Farmington
In order to ensure adequate water pressure in times of peak usage, the City of Farmington has a year round
Odd/Even Watering Policy. In addition to the odd/even policy, no watering is allowed between 12 noon and
6pm
Tips for Eanh Friendly Lawn & Yard Care....
@ Don't allow sprinklers to run unattended. Use a timer as a reminder when it's time to move or turn off the
sprinkler.
@ Morning is the best time to water most lawns. Before 10 AM is best because rising heat later on tends to
steal a lot of water by evaporation Another benefit is that grass and leaves have a chance to dry off quickly.
Evening or night time waterings leave the grass wet and can allow lawn diseases to develop.
@ A lush green lawn requires 1 to 1-1/2 inches of water a week Water three times a week applying about 1/2
inch at a time. Keep in mind the amount of rainfall that might fall on your yard and adjust your watering
schedule accordingly.
@ Avoid watering when windy or in the heat of the day.
@ Lawns that are frequently aerated absorb water better. Mulch shrubs and other plantings so the soil holds
moisture longer.
@ Forget about watering streets, walks and driveways. They don't grow a thing.
@ If you let your grass grow to about 1-1/2 to 2 inches in the summer, water loss will be reduced because the
blades will provide shade for the roots.
~ High nitrogen fertilizers stimulate lawn growth and increase water requirements. Most established lawns
only need fertilizing in the fall when the primary grass root growth occurs with the cool temperatures.
The only water we will ever have is what we have right now.
